COCHON 555 FIFTH ANNIVERSARY CULINARY COMPETITION CLOSES THE 2013 US TOUR IN LOS ANGELES WITH A CINCO DE MAYO AFTER PARTY
WE TURN FIVE YEARS OLD, 50 COCHON EVENTS ARE PART OF HISTORY
5 Chefs, 5 Pigs, 5 Winemakers, 5 Bourbons, 5 Mezcals, 5 Tequilas, 5 Years, all on Cinco de Mayo. Each Cochon 555 event challenges five local chefs to prepare a menu created from the entirety of heritage breed pigs for an audience of pork-loving epicureans and celebrated judges. The competing chefs are Joshua Whigham (Bazaar by José Andrés), Gavin Lansdale (Ford’s Filling Station), Ray Garcia (FIG Restaurant), Jet Tila (The Charleston), and Host Chef Sean Dent (House of Blues).
Guests will be treated to an epic pork feast alongside samples from the following wineries including Greg Linn, Paul Matthews, Elk Cove Vineyards, SIMI Winery, Robert Kacher Selections, Colección Internacional del Vino and Vibrant Rioja including special tastings from Taza Chocolate, Anchor Brewing, Crispin Ciders, Pig’s Nose Scotch, and Ilegal Mezcal. Twenty judges and 400 guests help decide the winning chef, who is crowned the Prince of Pork and will compete against other regional winners at the finale Grand Cochon event at the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen on Sunday, June 16. Also included in the evening is a preview of the new Heritage BBQ event in which Chris Fuller in collaboration with Christian Page of Short Order will roll out family meal – an additional whole pig cooked barbecue-style immediately preceding the awards.
VIP guests receive early access to the event and special offerings including a special tasting with three competing chefs. The VIP hour is filled with experiences that will not be found on the main floor such as access to "Punch Kings” – a new cocktail competition featuring Breckenridge Bourbon and six local bartenders, the all-new Tar Tare Bar presented by SIMI Winery, Rappahannock River Oysters, the Bacon Hall of Fame featuring Black Pig Meat Co., reserve wines and spirits. Guests will also be able to enter for a chance to win a roundtrip ticket from Southwest Airlines, the Official Airline for the “Cochon US Tour”. In addition, to celebrate five years of Heritage Breeds, Cochon added five bourbons to the lineup! All attendees will get samples of Breckenridge Bourbon, Eagle Rare, Templeton Rye, High West, Buffalo Trace and Four Roses in addition to the Perfect Manhattan Bar showcasing Luxardo cherries and Eagle Rare. Also new in 2013 is the Chupito/Mezcal Bar, a tasting experience featuring Mezcales de Leyenda, Pierde Almas and Fidencio. The infamous Craft Cheese Bar sees a facelift featuring a local cheesemonger, Cypress Grove Chevre, Vermont Butter & Cheese, Spring Brook Farm with an exclusive tasting of blues from Rogue Creamery, and favorites from Kerrygold.
The fun continues when Miyabi/Zwilling USA present a butcher demonstration featuring Erika Nakamura and Amelia Posada from Lindy & Grundy and a raffle to benefit the student volunteers, Fernet Branca digestifs, pork-spiked desserts, and then we raise of glass of the recently bottled 2012 Cochon Rose, have the awards ceremony, and of course, the biggest and best after party EVER.

Immediately following the main Cochon 555 event, the tour will turn five years old! Join the Cochon Five Year Birthday Celebration – Cinco de Mayo style on the second and third floors of the House of Blues and The Foundation room. An amazing lineup of DJ’s, along with two Cochon eating experiences will headline the evening. The night’s bites include a mash-up of epic porkportions – a pop-up Heritage BBQ and “Brainfreeze Bourbon Bar “ featuring a SnoCone Machine on the Foundation Room level, The restaurant level will feature DJ’s, friends of Cochon 555 and past participants serving up mind-blowing heritage pork tacos, and the perfect Mezcal vs. Tequila side by side showcase. Brews will be available throughout the night, and there will also be a special ice creams socials and a chocolate bar. The music lineup will make this Cinco de Mayo bash explosive – creating the perfect close to the 5th year of the Cochon 555 National Tour. Join us, as we raise a glass in celebration of responsible agriculture! Tickets for the after-party are additional. Guests can purchase all-inclusive after-party tickets $55.50 and only 100 will be available. Those buying tickets to Cochon 555 will have first dibs at tickets to the party. Created to promote a national conversation around the sustainable farming of heritage-breed pigs, each event challenges five local chefs to prepare a menu from the entirety of one 200 pound family-raised heritage breed of pig, nose-to-tail. Twenty judges (culinary luminaries) and 400 guests help decide the winning chef by voting on the "best bite of the day". The winner will be crowned the Prince of Porc and will compete at Grand Cochon event at the FOOD & WINE Classic in Aspen on Sunday, June 16.
New additions to the events in 2013 include the launch of an exciting cocktail competition called "Punch Kings" featuring Breckenridge Bourbon, prepared by [6] local bartenders (still room to signup on the link above), plus the new TarTare Bar round out the exclusive VIP hour. All attendees enjoy butcher demonstrations, sustainable oysters, creative pork dishes from all the chefs, a visit to the Manhattan Bar or new Chupito Bar featuring Mezcals, plus the infamous Cheese Bar saw bold enhancements, ice-cold brew from Anchor Brewing, pork-spiked desserts and cold-brewed coffee will close out the evening.
