COCHON 555 FIFTH ANNIVERSARY TOUR KICKS OFF IN NYC WITH AN ALL-FEMALE LINEUP OF CHEFS
The year 2013 marks a culinary milestone: The fifth anniversary of Cochon 555, the tour kicks off on Sunday, February 10, in New York City with an all-female line-up of chefs including Alex Guarnaschelli of Butter, Missy Robbins of A Voce, Shanna Pacifico of Back Forty West, Elizabeth Falkner of Krescendo and Leah Cohen of Pig & Khao. Each Cochon 555 event challenges the five local chefs to prepare a menu created from the entirety of one whole heritage breed pig for an audience of pork-loving epicureans and celebrated judges including Tom Mylan of The Meat Hook, Tressa Eaton of Tasting Table, Damon Wise of Lafayette, Ralf Kuettel of Trestle on Tenth, Sue Torres of Suenos, Christine M Quinlan of FOOD & WINE, Gavin Kaysen of Cafe Boulud, Brad Farmerie of Public, Thomas Schneller of Culinary Institute of America, Izabela Wojcik of The James Beard House, Emily Fleischaker of Buzzfeed, Matt Jennings of Farmstead Inc., Gable Erenzo of Tuthilltown Spirits, Mark Ladner of Del Posto, Marco Canora of Hearth Restaurant, Christian Pappanicholas of The Cannibal, Mark Noguchi of Pili Hawaii, Kat Kinsman of eatocracy / CNN, Mike Colameco, and Ryan Hardy of Chef on the Run.
Guests will be treated to an epic pork feast alongside wines from five family-owned wineries including Scholium Project, Elk Cove Vineyards, RdV Vineyards, Turley Wine Cellars and Buty Winery plus special tastings from celebrated food and beverage producers including a special pairing of Cypress Grove Chevre and Anchor Brewing, Rhone Valley Wines, Anchor Distillery, Vibrant Rioja and Robert Kacher Selections. Included in the evening is a preview of the new Heritage BBQ event when Sue Torres of Suenos rolls out family meal, another whole pig done BBQ style right before the awards. Everyone can commemorate the experience by visiting the City Eats photo booth and voting for the best bite of the day. Crispin Cider will be pouring as the Official Cider of the US Tour and Pigs Nose Scotch will be there for sipping.
VIP guests will experience some of the new additions for 2013, including the launch of the cocktail competition called "Punch Kings" featuring Breckenridge Bourbon and six local bartenders including James Menite of Crown Restaurant, Joshua Wortman of Añejo Tequileria, Richard Murphy of Buttermilk Channel, Lesley Mulholland of MyMoon and
Justin Noel of Jacques 1534. Witness the all-new hand-cut Tartare Bar featuring Matt Jennings from Farmstead, sustainable oysters from Rappahannock River Oysters, reserve wines and spirits.
To celebrate five years, Cochon is announcing five bourbons in addition to five family wineries and five chefs cooking five pigs. All attendees will get samples of Templeton Rye, Breckenridge Bourbon, High West, Buffalo Trace, and Four Roses in addition to the Perfect Manhattan Bar showcasing Hudson Whiskey, Eagle Rare, Luxardo and Antica Carpano. New to 2013 is also the Chupito Bar, a mezcal tasting experience featuring Ilegal, Mezcales de Leyenda, Fidencio, Pierde Almas, cucumbers and smoked sea salts. The infamous Craft Cheese Bar sees a facelift with an installation with local cheesemonger Beechers New York featuring Cypress Grove Chevre, Vermont Butter & Cheese, exclusive blues from Rogue Creamery, Spring Brook Farm and favorites from Kerrygold.
The fun continues with a butcher demonstration from Sara Bigelow from The Meat Hook and raffle to benefit the student volunteers of the Culinary Institute of America, ice-cold brews, Champagne toast, award ceremony, Fernet Branca digestifs, pork-spiked desserts with the ladies of Ovenly and Taza Chocolate, and of course, the after party will immediately follow at Resto with drink specials.
It kicks off at Pier Sixty, Chelsea Piers (West 23rd Street & Hudson River), New York City on Sunday, February 10th, 2013 - 4 pm VIP opening ($200); 5 pm general admission ($125). Tickets still remain but not for long.
COCHON 555 – five chefs, five pigs, five winemakers, five years! Do not miss it when this one-of-a-kind traveling culinary competition and tasting event comes to town and marks a culinary milestone with its 5th Anniversary Tour. Created to promote a national conversation around the sustainable farming of heritage-breed pigs, each event challenges five local chefs to prepare a menu from the entirety of one 200 pound family-raised heritage breed of pig, nose-to-tail. Twenty judges (culinary luminaries) and 400 guests help decide the winning chef by voting on the "best bite of the day". The winner will be crowned the Princess of Porc and will compete at Grand Cochon event at the FOOD & WINE Classic, at the recently renovated Hotel Jerome, in Aspen on Sunday, June 16.
New additions to the events in 2013 include the launch of an exciting cocktail competition called "Punch Kings" featuring Breckenridge Bourbon, prepared by [6] local mixologists, plus the new TarTare Bar round out the exclusive VIP hour. All attendees enjoy butcher demonstrations, sustainable oysters, creative pork dishes from all the chefs, a visit to the Manhattan Bar or new Chupito Bar featuring Mezcals, plus the infamous Cheese Bar saw bold enhancements, ice-cold brew from Anchor Brewing, pork-spiked desserts and cold-brewed coffee will close out the evening.
The COCHON 555 event is 100% inclusive and always on Sunday.
